Negit Island

The Negit Island volcanic complex is less than 2,000 years old. Three separate vents each erupted individual dacite lava flows to form three parallel elongate flows. The vents are located on the highest parts of the flows. The island is an important bird nesting site. But, if the lake falls to 6375 feet, a land bridge is formed to connect Negit Island to the northern shore line. The formation of the land bridge eliminates Negit Island as a breeding ground that is safe from predators.
